About the Japan Address Generator
Keep Random selected or choose one of Japan’s 47 prefectures, then generate area details, a postal code and a sample contact profile. The prefecture, municipality, town and postal code are sampled together from one postal-area record.
Building numbers are simulated two-part numbers. Names and contact details are generated independently as sample data. Results are suitable for development, form testing and demos; they do not identify real residents or guarantee an existing, deliverable address.
Understanding Japanese Address Fields
Prefecture
Japan has 47 prefectures. Results use Japanese names, such as 東京都. Random mode selects a prefecture first; choosing a prefecture restricts sampling to that area.
Municipality
The municipality identifies the local administrative area, such as 葛飾区. It comes from the same record as the prefecture, town and postal code, rather than being combined at random.
Town Area
The town area is the local town or district name and maps to the street field in the API. Japanese addresses commonly identify areas and building numbers, so a town area is not necessarily a road name.
Postal Code and Simulated Building Number
Postal codes retain all seven digits and use XXX-XXXX formatting, including leading zeros. Building numbers contain two numbers from 1 to 99, such as 12-8. They are simulated independently and are not part of the postal-area record.
〒[Postal code] [Prefecture][Municipality][Town area][Building number], Japan
The full address follows the order above. Area details and postal codes preserve the source record’s relationship; a simulated building number does not guarantee an existing or deliverable address.
Common Uses for Sample Japanese Addresses
Address Form Testing
Test prefecture selection, postal-code input, Japanese characters and address display. Check required fields and validation messages using sample contact details instead of real customer information.
Software Development and Validation
Populate test records with matched prefecture, municipality, town and postal-code details. Verify seven-digit codes, leading zeros and handling of long address fields.
Prototypes and Demonstrations
Show Japanese address structures in prototypes, screenshots and documentation. Use simulated names and contact details to explain interface behavior without exposing real personal data.
